National Youth Day: Penalty Brilliance Continues
Nomads participated in National Youth Day today with our U11s... and also volunteer refs Peter, Lol and Bondy. After a 6.45am departure, we started the tournament with a three-match winning streak beating Cambridge Tigers 2 (5-0 inc debut goal from Ethan and a hat-trick from Millie), Nottingham (12-0 with 4 goals apiece from Libby and Jack T), and Norwich City 1 (1-0, with Anja unluckily having a goal disallowed) taking us into the top pools for the afternoon.
We then beat Avenue 1 (3-1 with a hat-trick from Libby) but lost in perhaps a shock result to Avenue 2 (2-3) before beating Cambridge Tigers 1 (4-0 including Megan with a 💯 penalty record) taking us through to the semi-finals against Norwich City 1 who we had beaten by only 1 goal earlier. After a nervy start, siblings Jack and Millie claimed the 2-0 result to take us through to the final!!! Our team for the day made constant substitutions with all playing a vital role in this route to the final and all scoring goals (Libby pipping Millie to top goalscorer with 9 v 7).
And so to the final... our nemesis Avenue 2 who we had lost our only game of the day to. With a minute to go we were trailing 1-2... cometh the hour, cometh the girl 👌. Libby shoots from distance and the team have leveled 2-2 as the final whistle blows... sudden death penalties! 😱.
They missed.
We missed.
They missed.
We/Libby scored and the whole squad ran onto the pitch to celebrate the title.
NATIONAL YOUTH DAY U11 CHAMPIONS 2018 😀👍🔥. Thanks to the parents for driving the 6-hour round trip, coaches Claire and Cara, and to Norfolk Korfball for organising. Congrats to the whole U11 squad.
